Moore County citizen Pauline Bruno is among many Republicans who have criticized Sen. Thom Tillis because he frequently demonstrates stunning disregard for the will of North Carolina voters through his words and deeds.
When Tillis vocally denounced the airing of just-released video from inside the Capitol on January 6, 2021, and how it has been interpreted by Fox News host Tucker Carlson -- to whom the video was given exclusively -- Bruno communicated her dismay by sending a letter.
Remarkably, Tillis replied. But in his letter received on March 13, 2023, Tillis fails to mention that an innocent woman, Ashli Babbitt, was shot and killed by a reckless Capitol police officer on January 6.
Despite growing evidence that then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and federal government law enforcement agencies staged the initial surge at the top of the Capitol's steps, Tillis's letter demands sympathy for “140” injured officers that day.
In the letter, Tillis rejects Carlson's characterization that January 6 amounted to a few hours of "mostly peaceful chaos".
"I believe any attack on the brave men and women who protect and serve is an absolute disgrace," Tillis wrote. He goes on to refer to citizens who entered the Capitol as "criminals".
Nonetheless, Tillis looks past the most vile and criminal act that transpired, a single gun shot fired by Lt. Michael Byrd that killed Babbitt, an Air Force veteran who was unarmed. He further makes no reference to dozens of citizens rotting in a D.C. jail who have not received trials or formal charges after entering the Capitol on January 6. (See more details below)
