As (the Moore County Board of Education) promised, we are re-evaluating and re-quoting all construction projects proposed by the previous MCS Director of Operations, and approved by the previous school board (in circumstances in which) construction has not begun.
On the first two projects we revisited -- gym renovations and new roofs for various buildings -- WE SAVED 70% on the re-evalutions and re-bidding of the projects. Repeat: 70 PERCENT.
Putting this into numbers:
Total previous approved for these two projects: $10 million.
Total revised quotes: $3 million
Total savings: $7 million (SEVEN MILLION DOLLARS!)
Looked at another way, MCS was spending 300% more than necessary. That's right, wasting $7 million on just those two projects.
Highfalls, Cameron, and Westmoore, your HVAC and other gym improvements are coming.
Rather than being $9 million, three-year projects, the total cost will be $2.61 million and will include installing HVAC in all gyms, installing new energy efficient windows in all gyms, a new roof at Cameron (Highfalls and Westmoore do not need new roofs), getting rid of boiler/steam heat in the gym, installing HVAC in cafeterias, locker rooms, and several auxillary buildings. (These will be six-month projects).
