TILLIS FLAUNTS DEFIANCE OF NC REPUBLICANS
"I was involved in several bipartisan efforts in the last Congress. And I stand by every single one of them. I believe that they're aging well. This is actually a time for people who are serious about government to check some of their politics at the door (emphasis added) and get something done. ... I'm in Washington trying to find reasonable policy to implement every day. If it pushes some of my colleagues and my party out of the comfort zone, then don't vote for it. But if we have enough to get it done, it's time to get it done." (Sen. The Tillis 'bipartisan' record (117th Congress, 2021-22): Respect for Marriage Act (HR 8404) Heritage summary: Takes aim at the sincere religious and moral beliefs of a large portion of American society who believe in traditional marriage by turning those beliefs into discrimination. By setting a national policy of same-sex marriage, the Respect for Marriage Act would be used to paint those with sincerely held disagreements as bigots. The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (S 2938) Heritage summary: Gun control proposals stitched together with school safety and mental health provisions. ... The bill was negotiated and written by a small group of senators in secrecy, with the rest of the Congress expected to vote on the sweeping legislation just days after receiving the text. $1 Trillion Infrastructure Bill (HR3684) Heritage summary: Spends $1 trillion, despite the fact that the national debt is approaching $30 trillion and inflation is surging to levels not seen in 13 years, all of which is “paid” for by using slick accounting tricks. Not only is the deal bad policy, but it is also a bad process, as it is a prerequisite to passing the rest of President Biden’s catastrophic agenda.
