Moore Board of Elections acquiring new tabulators.

Voting machines at the polls are similar to offensive linemen during a football game. They receive attention only when they make a mistake. To preclude that in the case of the former, the Moore County Board of Elections arrived at two recent decisions.

It will replace aging ballot tabulators ahead of the 2023 municipal elections this fall, and it will buy them from its current vendor, Election Systems and Software. A competitor of ES&S also made a bid and both companies provided demonstrations for the board and members of the public inclined to attend. ES&S last year was at the center of major controversy after a glitch in one of its tabulators compromised the outcome of a school board election in New Jersey. A software technician installed new software incorrectly causing some votes to be double counted.
