Court of Appeals advances Drum lawsuit back into play

Former Village of Pinehurst council member Kevin Drum sued the village after it sought to accuse him of ethics violations ahead of the 2019 municipal election cycle during which he sough reelection.

Drum retaliated by laying out a case that the council repeatedly violated state open meetings laws. Judge James Webb tossed the suit citing lapsing of a statute of limitations.

But the North Carolina Court of Appeals recently agreed to hear Drum's case, noting that a statute of limitations never applied to his suit.

Drum has announced his intentions to run for mayor of Pinehurst this November.

If two members of a three-judge appellate court panel agree that Drum's case has merit, it will return to the courtroom ahead of the Fall 2023 elections.
